A Complicated Journey & Bit of Injustice

A Complicated Journey & Bit of Injustice

Published Date: 27 Mar 2016 | Update : 27 Mar 2016
Finishing off a great cricket season just before the world cup Bangladesh didn’t expect to fall like the house of cards in the super ten of the T20 world cup. Cricket obviously is an entertainment for many of us but when internal collations and politics come into this game of entertainment you surely can expect some controversies. Well that surely happened to Bangladesh.   A team with a flourished bowling line up and also up to the mark batting sector faced the dramatic fall of their performance in the carnival of cricket. Playing superbly in the qualifying stage Bangladesh hoped for a better show in super ten, but sometimes things don’t go as you want it to go. When there was this light of bolt in the heart of all Bangladeshi players, a big controversy took it away.   Taskin Ahmed and Arafat Sunny both have played cricket from the past two years, even in the Asia Cup Taskin Ahmed did a tremendous job. But calling these two bowlers of the guard did leave an impact on the Bangladesh team’s spirit in some way obviously.   Where even Afghanistan managed to pull a stunner by defeating West Indies with a small margin, Bangladesh lost 2 of the important matches by small margins, which have no proper explanation. For sure it was for their mistakes but a team’s fault doesn’t entirely depend on the captain himself. There was a time when Bangladesh were winning matches after matches and in this world cup losing couple of matches the captain did have to face some criticism from some former cricketers.   “What is the role of him (Masrafe) in the team? He didn’t bowl, he didn’t bat and he had one job which is to lead his side; he failed in that too.” Well it’s just one single quote, there were a lot of them. But blaming the captain for the whole team’s failure is just another wrong way to go. Well Gavaskar did change his statement after the match against India but still there was a lot to explain when you criticize a captain like Masrafe.   All Bangladesh team need was a simple victory. They were even close to get on against Australia but against India the match was in Bangladesh’s hand and it was their fault they couldn’t make it.   As a nation Bangladesh is full with emotions for cricket; after the one run defeat the supporters did cry, but not for the team but for the players fault. A lot of criticisms were floating around the social media on the early celebration of Musfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah; you don’t celebrate until you finish the job. Bangladesh have a little experience facing this type of situation, they have a problem which is ‘Rush of Blood’. You have to keep yourself together and make yourself calm in this particular situation. It was unexpected from the both players to play such shots in that time.   Being emotional in cricket, may be doesn’t go hand in hand when you do such jobs. But yet people were hoping for a comeback in their last match against New Zealand. Then again it was more disappointing. Losing the match by 75 runs and getting bowled out within 70 runs doesn’t portray the image of a good team. After losing a close match the team spirit should be upward, giving up matches, giving up the confidence is not the way of rolling in the hood.   This is true banning Taskin Ahmed and Arafat Sunny did take away some of the team spirit but the team should have taken this as a challenge. Playing matches in India is always hard for any other teams. And when a large portion of spectators goes against you, yes it’s even harder to hold that spirit up in the order. But Bangladesh have to adopt these small things, a good team don’t really bother about who is booing but rather they focus on their performance.   For Bangladesh it was yet another disappointing T20 world cup but this time around they have some great individual performance. As in Tamim Iqbal’s batting performance. Though he could live up to the mark in the super ten and missed out a match against Australia but he proved himself and continued his upward form. Scoring the first T20 hundred for Bangladesh, hitting the maximum number of sixes in this tournament and then being the top scorer; he should carry on this amazing form throughout his career.   Talking about the number one all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan who had a terrible Asia cup did manage to pull up his form during this world cup. Both with the bat and ball he contributed for the team. Unfortunately the team didn’t win a single match; despite of his amazing performance.   But the man who is in the spot light from last year satisfied all of us in this world cup too. None other than Mustafizur Rahman who took 9 wickets from 3 matches; he missed out the first four matches of this tournament but he came back really strong. Till now he bowled the best spell in this tournament (5-22) and became only the second bowler from Bangladesh to take five wickets in T20 international.   Its true Bangladesh didn’t make it to the headline of our newspapers this time around but they put on a great show despite of going through a lot. In one hand Bangladesh had a very complicated journey throughout this world cup but if we see from a different perspective Bangladesh will grow more confidence and spirit in the future. The complicity and injustice this bright team faced in this tournament won’t break them but will make them even stronger.   As in for now they need to focus more on their performance and team unity. They need to work on their strategies and make some new plans for the upcoming series. So far so long, we really dream to see this team to go far and so high; Team Bangladesh see you in the next World Cup!
