Bangladesh’s rapid improvement in the International Cricket has been hugely guided by their senior most cricketers Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, Mahmudullah Riyad, Mushfiqur Rahim, Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan.
From 2015, the Tigers started to show their worth and cricketing world started to realize their value. After an astonishing campaign in 2015 World Cup, they won ODI series against the mighty teams like India, Pakistan and South Africa on home soil.
On the other hand, their performance in the Test arena needed more time to bloom. But in 2016, they won a Test match against the Three lions in Mirpur and that was a magnificent one. That win against England helped them to start having the taste of longer format as they then won against Sri Lanka and Australia.
Their massive rise was properly leaded by those senior cricketers but the new bloods were not far behind. Apart from those 5 cricketers, Bangladesh have got some exciting new players like Mustafizur Rahman, Mehedi Hasan Miraz, Taskin Ahmed, Soumya Sarkar, Mosaddek Hossain and Sabbir Rahman in this time period. They have helped the team with new thinking, extra courage, variation in approach and strong mentality.
Among those new cricketers of Bangladesh, Mehedi Hasan Miraz can be called one of the brightest. He was much popular before starting his international career. His performance in the u-19 cricket has helped him for that. Miraz was named the best player in the last u-19 Cricket World Cup and he was terrific in that tournament with his batting, bowling and captaincy.
When he was selected for the first Test against England, no one had expected a lot from him. But he was magnificent in that series and broke many records by picking up 19 wickets in two Tests.
Later on, he toured New Zealand with Tigers but failed to show similar kind of performance. He faced difficulty to perform with his bat and people started to treat him as a bowler only. But he is a born fighter and so he has recently started to show consistency with his bat too. He performed brilliantly with bat and ball in the series against Sri Lanka and Australia.
However, Miraz is still not a regular member of Bangladesh team in limited-over’s cricket. However, he has already proved his ability in ODIs and T-20Is but he has to perform more brilliantly to get regular entry. Meanwhile, the fans of Bangladesh Cricket team have already started to treat him as the next Shakib Al Hasan and he has every quality for that.
After 5-6 years, Shakib will be close to his retirement and the 24-year-old Miraz will be at his pick at that moment. If everything goes in a right track, then Miraz will surely fill his place at that time.
Shakib is equally strong in batting and bowling but Miraz’s main strength is his bowling. Miraz can play bigger innings and it has been seen in the last u-19 Cricket World Cup.
Apart from his batting and bowling, Miraz’s mentality is also very much impressive. He struggled a lot in his life and those struggles have helped him to become a person with strong mentality. On the other hand, captaincy is his inherent quality and many people of Bangladesh already treat him as the future captain.
His potentials say a lot but his dedication and effort have to say more than that. If he can continue his hard-work for quenching his hunger to achieve more success, then one day he will become one of the best all-rounders in the history and he has that ability.
