He was playing brilliantly and made a world record along with Tamim Iqbal in the Test arena. Suddenly, Imrul met with bad-luck and became injured during the New Zealand series.
His injury gave Soumya an opportunity to prove his worth as a Test opener and he did well too although his recent performance has not been so consistent.
But Imrul fell behind due to that injury and started to take desperate measures to regain his full fitness. During the one-test series against India, he got hurt in the old place. However, he was successful to make a comeback after that but not in his favorite position.
Head coach Hathurusingha put him to bat at no.3 and his performance there has been terrible. In the recently concluded series against Australia, Imrul’s performance was literally horrible.
While talking to the media on Wednesday in Mirpur, Imrul blamed his bad-luck and injury for this poor form. He has said that the injury has spoiled his good run in the longer format.
Imrul said, “I failed to perform well in last two Test matches. After coming back from injury, I couldn’t do well in the Sri Lanka series too. I’ll call myself unlucky for this. I was in good form but things are not same now. I could have performed lot better without that break.”
Bangladesh have drawn the high-voltage Test series against Australia with a magnificent victory in Mirpur. Imrul has scored only 21 runs in the two matches with scores like 0, 2, 4 and 15. The left-handed batsman himself knows that a lot of criticisms have been made due to his poor form.
But he is determined to perform well in the upcoming Test series against South Africa which will be started with the first Test on 28th September in Potchefstroom.
The left-handed batsman said, “Every series is challenging for me. I’ll try hard but all depend on Allah. I always work harder to perform well but it is not possible to do well in every series.”
Imrul Kayes concluded, “I’ll bat at any position for my team. I don’t have any specific choice. Ability to Cope up with different situations is important for anyone.”
