Bangladesh beat New Zealand by 5 wickets in the final match of Walton Tri-Nation series at Clontarf Cricket Ground, Dublin. Despite the loss, New Zealand become the champion as they topped the points table.
Mashrafe Bin Mortaza won the toss and chose to field first. Mustafizur Rahman gave the first breakthrough to Bangladesh by dismissing Luke Ronchi on 2. Then Tom Latham and Neil Broom’s 133 runs partnership in the 2nd wicket settled the New Zealand innings.
Quickly after their dismissals, Bangladeshi bowlers fought back in the match thanks to some brilliant bowling in the death overs. New Zealand finished their innings on 270 for 8 in 50 overs. Shakib Al Hasan, Nasir Hossain and Mashrafe Bin Mortaza all picked up 2 wickets each.
In reply Bangladesh lost Soumya Sarkar in the first over. Then Tamim Iqbal and Sabbir Rahman added 136 runs in the 2nd wicket. Tamim and Sabbir both were out for 65. Soon Mosaddek Hossain and Shakib Al Hasan followed them and Bangladesh were in trouble on 199 for 5.
But Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah’s unbeaten 72 runs in the 6th wicket secured a 5 wicket victory for Bangladesh. Mushfiqur remained not on 45 and his partner Mahmudullah was unbeaten on 46.
Mushfiqur Rahim was adjusted man of the match for his excellent knock of 45 from 45 balls including 3 fours and 1 six.
