Talented wicket-keeper batsman, Liton Kumar Das is a name which frustrates most of the fans of Bangladesh Cricket team due to his inability to perform in international arena.
He came to the scene with a lot of prospect and his talent is still measured in high scale. Domestic cricket is the favorite arena for Liton as he performed brilliantly in all the seasons he has appeared so far.
Even in the last six match of Dhaka Premier League (DPL), he scored 471 runs with two brilliant hundreds. In the last match, his brilliant knock of 85 runs against Prime Bank really amazed everyone who were present in the field.
It can be said easily that he has been in a great touch but even selectors now fear to take him into the national team due to his contradictory performance. His performance in the international arena is completely different.
Liton has scored 2933 runs so far in first class cricket with an average of 51.46 while he has scored only 137 runs in 4 test matches with an average of 27.40.
On the other hand, same kind of situation can be noticed in his career of 50-over cricket. Apart from the ODI, he has scored 2172 runs in 52 List ‘A’ match with an average of 44.33 while he managed to score only 124 runs in 9 ODIs with an average of 15.50.
He first played for Bangladesh in 2015 against India. His fantastic knock of 44 runs showed great hope and then he scored a brilliant half-century in the next test match against South Africa.
But, things became tougher for him after that. In the next test match, he scored only 3 runs and couldn’t manage to score even a fifty in next 9 ODIs and 3 T-20Is.
With that kind of performance, it’s tough to hold the place in national team and he was excluded then. But, Liton didn’t become frustrated and came back into the side in recent Sri Lanka series by showing brilliant performance in National Cricket League (NCL) and Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL).
But this time his luck were against him as he got injured just before the 2nd test. Currently, Bangladesh Cricket team is in UK for the upcoming Champions Trophy and Liton is busy in performing brilliantly in DPL.
By looking at his records in domestic arena, it can be said that he has the talent but something is there which is preventing him to flourish in international arena.
So, it’s his job to work even harder and perform even better which will allow him to get his place back in the national team as such a talented player like him can be vital for the Tigers.
