After having so many speculations and hearing so many rumors about the team, I was literally confused about the probable team of Bangladesh for Champions Trophy 2017.
Tension was rising high from last few days as I was waiting eagerly to see a balanced Bangladesh team for the upcoming World Tournament. Personally, I think that this tournament will be important to keep our pride intact.
When Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced the 15-men squad on Thursday, I became confused. One question started to knock the doors of my mind continuously. Is this team strong enough to compete against the top 7 teams of the world?
Bangladesh missed the last two season of Champions Trophy but this time they are back now for this season with awesome performance in recent years. Mashrafe and his team has been fighting for more than two years to reach up to this level and the time to prove their worth in the biggest stage has finally come.
I think the selectors has made the right choices for our team and this team can be able to upset the world. Do I sound illogical? If you think so, then here are my answers for my statement.
Currently, we have a top class opener in our team who is considered as one of the best in the current era. His name is Tamim Iqbal who can easily win matches single-handedly. In recent years, Tamim has been developed as a matured batsman and he can handle any kind of pressure now.
On the other hand, Soumya is the most favorite to open the innings with Tamim for Bangladesh and there is no doubt with the class of him. He can play any shots and hit any bowlers of the world. But, inconsistency is a big problem for him and he has to work on that. If he becomes able to get over that, then it will be hard for any bowlers to stop him.
Moreover, we have another classic player, Imrul Kayes in our squad who will be used as the back-up of Tamim and Soumya. If any situation comes where one of Tamim or Soumya is unavailable, then Imrul is always ready to perform.
Middle and Lower Order:
Probably, the current set up of middle order of Bangladesh is one of the best in the world. A solid middle order consisting some extra ordinary players like Sabbir, Mushfiq, Shakib and Mosaddek is enough to face any battle.
Shakib and Shakib has been in superb form while Mosaddek is always desperate to show the glimpse of his caliber. Only concern is Mushfiqur Rahim’s performance in white ball cricket but for a player like him, it won’t create that much problem.
Recently, Mahmudullah has been shifted to bat at the lower order and he is so dangerous in that position. If team falls into trouble, then he can handle that and on the other hand, he can hit the ball out of the park very well.
However, Miraz’s inclusion in limited over’s cricket has been proven as an excellent decision. He can add vital runs coming at the lowers order. Meanwhile, don’t forget the power hitting ability of Mashrafe Bin Mortaza as he is always a dangerous batsman who has enormous power.
Spin Bowling Options:
The Champions Trophy 2017 will be held in England and we all know the condition in England doesn’t really suit the spinners. But, we have Shakib Al Hasan in our team who can beat any batsman with his clever spin bowling.
Moreover, Mehedi Hasan Miraz is also in the team whose off spin has created so many problems for many world class batsmen so far. But, he needs to learn bowling perfectly in overseas conditions. Meanwhile, Mosaddek Hossain, Mahmudullah Riyad and Sabbir Rahman’s part time spin bowling can be used too.
However, apart from these options, we have a left-handed option, Sunzamul Islam who can be dangerous if he gets the chance to play. Moreover, he is a proven player in the domestic format of Bangladesh.
Pace Bowling Options:
So many people around the cricketing world may get surprised to see Shafiul Islam in the squad but I am not surprised at all. He is a genuine swing bowler who can know how to swing the ball in both ways. Moreover, he has a good track record in that condition.
On the other hand, we have Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed and Rubel Hossain in Bangladesh team for Champions Trophy. We all know about the ability of Mustafizur Rahman but his recent form may a reason to worry for many people. But, I have full trust that he will be so dangerous.
Lastly, we have Mashrafe Bin Mortaza whose accurate bowling in correct line and length has been creating problems for each and every batsman for many years. Apart from leading the team, he has been successful to lead the pace attack of Bangladesh efficiently.
Captain and the Half-Captains:
You might be surprised to see the word ‘Half-Captains’ but it is a vital word for current Bangladesh team. We all know about the ability of Mashrafe as a captain and his enormous dedication for the game is always a source of inspiration for all the players.
But, most importantly, we have some ‘Half-Captains’ in out team who always help Mashrafe in difficult situations. Mushfiqur Rahim, Shakib Al Hasan, Tamim Iqbal and Mahmudullah Riyad are these ‘Half-Captains’ of our team.
Are you done with reading all those points written above? Do you see any lacking in the team?
You might be sad for not picking up Nasir Hossain in the team or you might be feeling the need of a pace bolwing all-rounders like Saifuddin in the squad.
But truly speaking, there is no place for them. Mosaddek and Miraz are far better than Nasir in their respective roles and Nasir has no one to replace with other than them. Sunzamul can be replaced with him but then there won’t be any variety in the team.
Let’s focus on Saifuddin issue. Do you really think that Saifuddin is ready for a big tournament like Champions Trophy? He has a lot of time left in his career and the role we are seeking from him, can be fulfilled easily by Mashrafe Bin Mortaza.
That’s all from my points of view. I am strongly hoping for a big success in this year’s Champions Trophy from this team.
