New Zealand have won the toss and are bowling first.
Four changes for Bangladesh – Mushfiqur Rahim, Mominul Haque and Imrul Kayes are out injured, while Subashis has been dropped. Nurul Hasan, Soumya Sarkar, Nazmul Hossain Shanto and Rubel Hossain come in. Nurul and Nazmul make their debuts.
Bangladesh have 13 fit players at the ground – Mushfiqur, Imrul, Mominul and Mustafiz all injured, says Mohammad Isam, who is at the ground.
Major test then for the Bangladesh openers as the conditions are likely to favour the seamers early on. The Hagley Oval surface was under covers for most of the last two days and it is partly cloudy today too.
Tamim and Soumya Sarkar will open the innings – the latter for the first time in Tests – and Nazmul will come into the middle order. Mushfiqur’s thumb injury is bound to keep him out for at least three weeks. Imrul is down with a grade-two thigh strain and Mominul has suffered a rib injury. This will be the first time Bangladesh will be without Mushfiqur in almost a decade.
Bangladesh XI –
1 Tamim Iqbal (capt), 2 Soumya Sarkar, 3 Nazmul Hossain Shanto, 4 Mahmudullah, 5 Shakib Al Hasan, 6 Sabbir Rahman, 7 Nurul Hasan (wk), 8 Mehedi Hasan, 9 Taskin Ahmed, 10 Rubel Hossain, 11 Kamrul Islam Rabbi
New Zealand are unchanged.
