Zimbabwe announces 16 men squad for Sri Lanka series

Zimbabwe has announced their 16-men squad for the upcoming home tri-nation series against Sri Lanka and West Indies. The squad includes two new faces: right-handed batsman Tarisai Musakanda and right-arm fast bowler Carl Mumba.

If Tarisai Muskanda plays in the series, it will be his international debut. He has been a consistent performer for Zimbabwe A team and Zimbabwe Development XI.

Meanwhile Carl Mumba has played two tests against Sri Lanka recently. His test debut was at Harare, Zimbabwe on 29th October. He grabbed 5 wickets in the two innings of that match.

Three others have also made a comeback into the one-day squad who were left out for the India series back in June. The returning players are: Brian Chari, Tinashe Panyangara and Chris Mpofu. Chari and Mpofu got a call from the selectors for the first time since 2015.

Paceman Panyangara is returning after recovering from a back injury which forced him to miss the ODI series against and the two Test match series against New Zealand. He is one of the Zimbabwe’s strike bowlers with an impressive record taking 64 wickets in his 64 ODI matches.

Top-order batsman Vusi Sibanda’s exclusion from the team is a bit of a surprise because he scored a half-century against India back in June. His poor form against Pakistan A representing Zimbabwe A during September-October might be a reason for his exclusion from the team.

The tri series commences from 14th November in Harare where Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka face each other. The final will take place in Bulawayo on 27th November.
