On Sunday, Bangladesh and Afghanistan faced each other on the first match of the three-match ODI series. On their grand return to the ODI Bangladesh won the match by 7 runs. Though it wasn’t an easy ask for them.
Winning the toss Bangladesh skipper Mashrafe Mortaza elected to bat first, which surprised many as the pitch was supposed to change in the later part of the innings and team batting second supposed to get advantage from the pitch.
Batting first Bangladesh got all-out on 265 runs, which wasn’t too much in terms of the batting line-up the team has.
Soumya Sarkar who opened the innings with Tamim Iqbal failed to deliver what he was supposed to; getting out in the very first over.
But, Tamim Iqbal and Imrul Kayes tackled down the initial damage putting up a partnership worth of 83 runs. Though Imrul got out on 37 runs, Tamim kept his batting going scoring 80 runs. Apart from Tamim Mahmudullah Riyad picked up his fifty in the later part of the innings, he stopped on 62 runs.
Shakib Al Hasan, who created a record in the second innings, was impressive with the bat. He scored 48 runs from 40 deliveries pushing Bangladesh ahead of the run-rate. But no commitment was showed by Mushfiqur Rahim and Shabbir Rahman.
Apart from Taijul’s 11 runs no one from the lower order could guide Bangladesh as they had to stop on 265 runs. Dawlat Zadran was the star for Afghanistan picking up four wickets, apart from him Nabi and Rashid picked up two wickets each. Naveen and Ashraf bagged one each.
