The stunning opening partnership between Tamim Iqbal and Tillakaratne Dilshan secured a massive 10 wickets win against the Sylhet Super Stars at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium here on Wednesday.
The unbeaten 140 runs stand between the Vikings openers led the home team to secure only 2nd win in their 7th match in the 3rd session of BPL-2015.
Both of the openers Tamim and Dilshan scored 67 runs from 51 and 46 balls respectively while chasing 140 runs posted by the Super Stars.
Tillakaratne Dilshan has been declared man of the match for his outstanding 67 runs with 6 fours and 3 sixes.
The bowlers of the Super Stars once again frustrated the fans and franchise by showing poor performances as well as failed to break the opening partnership and they conceded 5th loss in their sixth match.
Earlier, Pakistani hard-hitting batsman Shahid Afridi’s 62 in his first appearance in the 3rd Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) guided struggling Sylhet Super Stars to score 139/9 against dispirited Chittagong Vikings.
Sent in to bat first in the 18th BPL match, Sylhet Super Stars played 20 overs to post the decent total spurred by the 7th wicket pair for 60 runs in 6 overs between Shahid Afridi and Sohail Tanvir.
The 7th pair carried the team total to 123/7 in 16.3 overs from 63/6 in 10.3 overs before Sohail Tanvir was caught by Ziaur Rahman off a Shafiul Islam delivery.
Afridi hammered 62 off 41 balls featuring five fours and four sixes before being bowled out by Mohammad Amir at 125/8 in 17.1 overs.
Sohail Tanvir was out for 17 off 16 balls with one four and one six while Ravi Bopara (11 off 9b; 2×4) and Abdur Razzak (not out 10 off 12; 1×4) were the other double figure scorers for Sylhet Super Stars.
Opening the innings, Sylhet Super Stars were jolted early losing three top order batsmen — Munaweera, Nurul Hasan and skipper Mushfiqur Rahim — for 21/3 in 3.1 overs.
Ravi Bopara and Mominul Haque also departed dismally when the scoreboard was showing 46/5 in 6.5 overs. Nazmul Hossain Milon could have stay with Afridi, but followed Mominul soon at team’s 63/6 in 10.3 overs.
Shafiul Islam grabbed 2 wickets for 37 runs while Mohammad Amir, Bilawal Bhatti, Taskin Ahmed and Asif Hasan took one wicket each for 18, 20 27 and 31 runs respectively, all bowling 4 overs apiece.
