Justifying the tag of red-hot favourtie Dhaka Dynamites kept up the domination, recording a fourth straight victory in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

To top the table with clean chit, they came up with another stellar effort to thrash Sylhet Sixers by 32 runs on Saturday at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.

While the encounter created a huge hype, considering the presence of overseas superstars in both side, it didn’t quite live up to the billings after Dhaka bowlers made it a one-sided affair, toying with a hapless Sylhet batsmen.

Electing to bat first, Dhaka compiled 173 for seven, their lowest total of this season but still a formidable one, given the fact that no other side as of now even could score 170 plus total. The Dhaka bowlers complemented their batsmen, strangling Sylhet’s much-vaunted batting line up to eventually restrict them to 141 for nine.

Amid the star-studded batting line, Rony Talukdar was instrumental in Dhaka’s comfortable total, shellacking 34 ball-58, studded with five fours and three sixes. By doing so, he became the first local batsman in this edition to hit a half-century.

Rony and Sunil Narine’s 67-run for the second wicket stan laid a solid platform after Dhaka lost Hazratullay Zazai (4) cheaply. This was second straight single digit score for Zazai after two successive six-filled half-century in the first two matches.

Rony indeed outshined a natural stroke-maker Narine in the partnership to keep the side on course of yet another big score, in a pitch where other teams barring Dhaka Dynamites kept finding them in wanting in regular basis.

However Narine perished to a rash shot after 25 off 21, hitting two fours and as many sixes. But Rony found a support in skipper Shakib Al Hasan.

He grew with confidence in every big shot before playing one shot too many against Afif Hossain to give away his wicket. Rather the bowler, it was the credit for fielder Nicholas Pooran who did an outstanding job, jumping high to take the catch above his head.

Dhaka then received a further setback as fast bowler Al-Amin Hossain dismissed Shakib for 23, leaving them at 117 for four in 13 overs.

It was not unfamiliar situation for Dhaka, who faced such situation in the last three matches and either Keiron Pollard or Andre Russell rescued them with their immense muscle power.

That was not to be in this match as fast bowler Taskin Ahmed decided to alter the script. Delivering a dream over, he ended up with a treble, getting the better of Russell (5), Pollard (3) and Shuvagata Hom (0), reducing Dhaka to 125 for seven.

What looked to be a 200 plus score initially, Dhaka seemed to have struggled for survival. But Naim Sheikh on his BPL debut and Nurul Hasan Sohan played some smart cricket to share 48 off 31 balls in an unbroken eighth wicket partnership to help Dhaka post still a total to savour. Taskin Ahmed was the most successful bowler for Sylhet with three for 38.

Sylhet Sixers captain David Warner swept Shakib for six in the second ball of the first over he faced, making the things look ominous for Dhaka.  Shakib didn’t bog down and induced Warner with a flighted delivery, which the Australian dispatched happily but found Pollard at mid-wicket as the Caribbean stalwart completed the catch at second chance.

Inspired by the wicket of dangerous Warner, Dhaka bowlers kept striking at regular interval while Sylhet batsmen continued playing wretched shot to dig their own graveyards in a clash of giants.

Only Nicholas Pooran held his head high and played a six-filled 47 ball-72 with one four and nine sixes to reduce the margin only.

Fast bowler Rubel Hossain returned figures of three for 22 while Shakib Al Hasan and Shuvagata Hom snared two apeice. Aliss Islam, who hogged the headline with a hat-trick on his debut BPL match against Rangpur Riders, returned with economical figure in this match with one for 14 in four overs.
