Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hasan hinted that Mahmudullah will be leading the Bangladesh team in the upcoming Test series against Zimbabwe.

Shakib, who sustained an injury to his finger, is expected to be out of competitive cricket for up to three months which includes the time frame in which Zimbabwe and Windies will visit Bangladesh, with the two assignments running from October 21 until December 22.

Mahmudullah, who led Bangladesh in the home series against Sri Lanka after Shakib was ruled out due to injury, also continued to lead in Shakib's absence during the Nidahas Trophy in March until he was replaced by the experienced all-rounder for the later stages of the tournament.

’Shakib is our Test and T20 skipper while Mahmudullah is his deputy. The normal norm is when the skipper is unavailable his deputy will lead the side,’’ Nazmul told reporters at a function in Dhaka Club on Thursday.

‘’Now if we select a new captain will we replace him when Shakib returns back,’’ he questioned ‘’It does not look good so I feel until Shakib is getting fit Mahmudullah should do the captaincy,’’ he added.

Bangladesh will start their campaign against Zimbabwe with a three-match ODI series from October 21 and will follow that with two-match Test series, scheduled from November
