Liton's double-ton saves the day for Rangpur
Rajshahi Division failed to maintain control over their Tier 1 clash against Rangpur Division in the National Cricket League as Liton Das belted a double century for the latter on the third day.
Rajshahi declared their first innings at 589/4 after Junaid Siddique racked up a hundred to become the third centurion for his team in the first innings alongside Nazmul Hossain and Mizanur Rahman.
Farhad Hossain and Jahurul Islam also picked up a fifty each while Rajshahi added 170 runs to their score of 419/2 from the previous day, losing the wickets of these two batters in the process.
Rangpur, who managed to total only 151 runs in the first innings, put up a brilliant batting display in the second innings as Liton made 203 runs off 142 balls. Taijul Islam finally put an end to his innings in the penultimate over of the day.
The right-handed batsman formed a 98-run opening partnership with Jahid Jabed before stitching together 219-run stand with Mahmudul Hasan. Jabed made 35 runs before getting dismissed by Shafiqul Islam and Mahmudul finished the third day’s play by remaining unbeaten on 72 runs.
Rangpur are still 119 runs behind with eight wickets in hand and will look to save the match on the fourth and final day while Rajshahi will try hard to make a comeback and bag the winning points.
