2 crore reward for the Tigresses
Bonus for champions Bangladesh as BCB president announces more benefits
BCB president Nazmul Hasan Papon has confirmed that newly-appointed Asia Cup champions Bangladesh will be rewarded a bonus of 2 crore taka ($236,300 approx) for their brilliant performance in the tournament.
The Tigresses beat India to win the seventh Asia Cup and become the only nation, apart from the Women in Blue, to win the tournament. Prior to this edition of the tournament, India hadn’t lost a single game – let alone lose the tournament – but were made to taste defeat by Salma Khatun’s team. Not once, but twice.
As a result, BCB have decided to award the ladies with a bonus of 2 crores while also adding that the best performers in the tournament – like Rumana Ahmed – will be awarded more.
‘We will make sure that every single member of the squad gets at least 10 lakhs (11,810 appox) each [for their efforts]. In total, we will give the whole squad 2 crore taka collectively,’ Nazmul Hasan said.
Speaking at a board organized Iftar party in Pan Pacific Sonargaon hotel, BCB president Nazmul Hasan Papon added that this achievement will trigger young girls of the nation to grow an interest in the game and aspire to be like the champions.
‘We are hoping that this [Asia Cup victory] will inspire a lot of girls [to play cricket]. All these days, we weren’t getting many aspiring female cricketers but now we will.’
He also added that in order to increase the volume of female cricketers, the BCB have organized a committee that will discuss how to increase their benefits in two days’ time.
‘We have created a committee that will decide on how to increase the benefits [for female cricketers] so that more young female cricketers are interested in the sport.’
If implemented, this is a plan that looks like a great way to increase the following of women’s cricket as it looks like this Asia Cup could catapult the country to new heights in cricket.
